While hosting the web site many people have many miss concepts
and myths about web hosting. Above all many Web Hosting
Companies, instead of clearing their myths and helping user
get their web site properly hosted, either they add some more
to it or do not take any effort to clear them.
This page is intended to help user to understand the hosting
and clear some of their myths about web hosting.
1. Linux Server Cannot Host a
Dynamic Site
If your web site is hosted on Linux, clients can use windows
for visiting your site and gives the same result. You can make
dynamic web site in Linux by using Perl, PHP, Java Servelts,
JSP, Chilli ASP etc.
2. Unique IP Address Have Advantage?
Some web hosting companies play gimmick of giving
unique IP Address for your web site. They claim that because
of unique IP Address your data is safe and nobody can hack the
data. This is not true. If you ISP host multiple sites on
single IP even then your data is safe. Web site hacking has
nothing to do with unique IP Address; it depends only on
server security as a whole. So to give unique IP Address on
one server having multiple domains one has to configure at
lest 500 to 1000 IP (since each server can handle around 1000
domains) it may cause some conflict on the server.
3. Front Page Extension
Front Page Extension is used to upload files from
Front Page directly, it does not mean that if server does not
have Front Page Extension then web site designed in Front Page
will not work. Some time people create forms in front page so
front page generates ASP code for the form and uploads the ASP
Code. This code does not work on Linux server. Since ASP is
not supported in Linux so the code does not work, and not
because Front Page Extension.
4. Connectivity
Most of web space provider (WSP) give space at lower rates and
claim connectivity of OC192. The cost of this connectivity is
approx costs 100,000 USD per month even though they are able
to sell space per web site at rate of Rs. 600.00 or even
below. Best way to check connectivity is by ping command Ask
the WSP to give one web site name on the same server. Say it
is xyz.com then on MSDOS prompt give command as "C:\>ping
abc.com" it gives you how much time it will take. And compare
then same with command ping nagpurtrade.info, our server farm
has OC3 connectivity and having multiple servers on same
bandwidth so that we can get best result at lower price. For
your perusal following is bandwidth chart
T1 = 1.54 Mbps
T3 = 44 Mbps = 28 times T1
OC3= 155 Mbps = 100 times of T1 |
